Stone Bridge over the Duero

STONE BRIDGE OVER RIVER DUERO

REASON FOR BEING OF SORIA BIRTH

HISTORY

The first reference of the existence of the bridge, contained in documents, indicates that it was already built in 1157, therefore in its Romanesque origin.

There is no documentary evidence of how the bridge was originally, but we know that it had two towers, one on the side connecting to the city, framed on the wall and the other in the middle part.

He received several restorations in the seventeenth and eighteenth centuries, which will determine its current appearance. The towers desappeared in the nineteenth century and a few years ago it received the last reform.

The bridge is located in an exclusive setting, as said by Machado "between San Polo and San Saturio".

CONSTRUCTION

Built entirely in stone, now measures one hundred and twelve meters, has eight arches that cross the uneven terrain.

Since 2010 this landmark medieval bridge has active artistic lighting which enhances its night image and at the same time as the environment in which it is located producing a combination of images and their reflections in the water, which like a black mirror provides a second image, inverted, of the illuminated bridge.
